Benjamin Sidebottom

Rider profile

Born 30/12/90

Prefers to be called Ben.

Started riding motorcycles at the age of four on a Italjet 50 "twist n' go".

At the age of 5 Ben saw the American monster truck show at Leeds, having seen the support act namely the motor cross lads Ben decided to imitate their stunts on his 50.

At 8 years old Ben upgraded his machine to a Montessa 250 Cota, apparently he needed more power.

At the age of eleven Ben wanted to take part in some kind of motorcycle competitions so it was decided he would compete in Road racing when he was twelve.

2003 Ben entered his first race at Carnaby with disastrous results. Having been practicing on the Friday and snapping his chain, on the Saturday's race he blow his engine on the finish line.

After changing his engine overnight, Sunday was no better having been forced off the track by another rider in practice Ben was unable to continue and spent the day as a spectator.

The rest of the season fared little better as lack of mechanical knowledge saw Ben destroying engine after engine in his quest to get results.

2004 Having persuaded Rod Lee of Lee Bros to build us an engine that worked, Ben managed to start doing reasonably well, then dad was made redundant and the cash flow stopped flowing putting a premature end to the season.

2005 The first race was at Darly Moor which turned out to be a mechanical nightmare and Ben began to get despondent with racing.

Race 2. At the first meeting of 2005 for the Preston & District mcc Ben finally got the results he had been chasing. A working machine and a first and second place in his class.

Since then Ben has not been out of the top three in his class and looks like securing the formula 125 championship this season.

Not content with this result .In 2006 Ben hopes (assuming the capital can be raised) to take part in coveted Super teen series or better known as the "Aprilia challenge".
